Notes:

 (1) Heroin includes all opioids.

 (2) Data refer to all treatments. Data on new treatments were not reported as figures were too small.

 (3) Data refer to all treatments. For 2004 data refer to first treatments.

 (4) For 2005 data refer to 9 treatment centres: 3 outpatient centres, 3 inpatient centres and 3 treatment units in prison. For previous years data refer to only 1 outpatient centre for which data were available for that time period.

 (5) In the case of Austria, data only refer to clients in substitution treatment, using opioids as primary drug.

 (6) Data refer to all treatments up to 2002. For 2003 data refer to first treatments. Heroin includes all opioids. For 2004, data were not available and therefore not included in the analysis.

 (7) Data for 2003 include 24.4% of main drug (heroin+cocaine). In former years this situation was coded as 'cocaine' in table 4.

 (8) Data refer to all treatments up to 2002 and to new treatments from 2003.
