Ecstasy or amphetamine users are defined as students who have used either substance in the past month.
Binge alcohol use is defined as 5+ drinks in a row during last 30 days.
Averages are based on 19 Member States — Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany , Greece, Sweden, UK, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Norway, Croatia and Turkey.
Figures for Germany are based on 6 regions only — Bavaria, Brandenburg, Berlin, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Thuringia.
Figures for Turkey are based on one major city in each of 6 different regions (Adana, Ankara, Diyarbakir, Istanbul, Izmir and Samsun).
ESPAD 2003 The figure is based on data from the database produced within the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD). Analyses was in line with the rules for the use of the ESPAD database and the National Principal Investigators providing data for each of the countries included can be found at www.espad.org
