Notes:

 The table includes fixed and mobile needle and syringe programme points in prisons and in the community, including through outreach work and peer-distribution, but not vending machines. 

 Updates were made where new information became available. 

 Where data were not available, the table entry is left empty.

 (1) Data on number of syringes in 2005 for Bulgaria are estimates. 

 (2) Data on number of syringes in 2005 for Czech Republic are estimates. 

 (3) Data on number of syringes in 2005 for Denmark are estimates. 

 (4) Data on number of syringes in 2005 and 2006 for Romania are estimates. 

 (5) Data on number of syringes in 2005 for Norway are estimates. 

 (6) Data for Bulgaria in 2006 are partial and include only GF-funded NSPs in 7 cities. 

 (7) Data for Austria cover only two major agencies: VWS Vienna and Komfüdro Tyrol. 

 (8) Data for Portugal include the free syringe exchange programme through pharmacies. 

 (9) Data for the Netherlands are estimates and cover only the cities Amsterdam and Rotterdam. 

 (10) Data for Poland include syringes funded by the National Bureau for Drug Prevention. 

 (11) Data on number of syringes in 2006 for Finland are estimates. 

 (12) Data for the UK refer to the Fiscal year (1 April - 31 March) and are reported under the earlier calendar year. 

 (13) Data for Slovakia cover independent exchange programmes provided by field services, institutions and the K-centre.
