(1) For Czech Republic, EMCDDA Selection D was used instead of the national definition. National definition also includes poisoning by psychoactive medicines, which accounts for most cases.

(2) In the year 2008 the number of cases on which no autopsy has been performed tripled (up to 32 cases) in comparison with previous years. Thus the number reported for 2008 might be the lower limit, adding up to 201 cases if all 32 suspicious non confirmed cases were included.

In some countries, the ‘national definitions’ of drug-induced death include a limited number of cases of deaths indirectly related to drug use. See Methodological notes in the 2010 Statistical bulletin.

Although all cases are included in 'N', in some countries not all cases have information on toxicology. The proportions have been computed as valid percentages (see Table DRD-1).
