(1) Data in the 2008 column refers to 2006. Due to its heterogeneous quality, data should be interpreted with caution. Because missing data for some functions (e.g. social protection, education or communal level), data provided for 2006 should be considered a conservative estimation of actual public expenditures on illicit drugs.

(2) Data in the 2008 column refers to 2007.

(3) Data in the 2008 column refers to 2007. The expenditures provided are based on the middle value in the cases where modelling gives two values (minimum and maximum values).

(4) The data reported is for the period April 2007 to March 2008. The exchange rate used was the Bank of England annual average spot exchange rate 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008 1.4196.
