Notes:

: Indicates data are not available.

Percentages are of clients whose status is known (n).

 (1) The category "never went to school" is not available, due to the obligation to visit school at least for 9 years, it can be assumed, that nearly nobody (very few exceptions) has not visited school at least for four years.

 (2) - Data refers to outpatient and inpatient treatment centres (aggregated data). Primary level education is until the end of 9th grade, as from 9th grade the pupil ended the first stage of the schooling and can leave the school. "Vocational education" is taken as "the secondary level of education" as well as ended high-school is secondary level. "Higher education" consists of variables such as "professional higher education (applied higher education)", "higher education (diploma/bachelor's degree", "higher education (master degree)", "Phd/candidate".

 (3) 275 new cases excluded as they are still in education. This is not possible to include these cases according to the maximum attained level of education as these clients are currently still in education. Also, it is not possible to directly record the maximum level of completed education based upon a client being still in education and 16 years old in our information system. In Ireland a person may generally completes secondary level between the ages of 17-19, however there are instances where people have completed their leaving cert aged 16. If a client is older and has returned to education, it would be impossible to infer a maximum level of completed education, for example a client aged 50 may have returned to education but their the maximum level of education completed to date could be any of the following: never completed primary level, primary, or secondary level. In order to record the maximum level of completed education the requirements for the information system would have to be changed. Such a change will require changing the data collection form and database, along with retraining all service providers.

 (4) Last data available refer to 2008 and to outpatient and prisons treatment centres (aggregated data).

 (5) Education level not according to ISCED levels but rather to national education system. See for example: http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/eurydice/ressources/eurydice/eurybase/pdf/section/LV_EN_C2_4.pdf

 (6) Data refer to Outpatient and specialised inpatient treatment centres, low-threshold agencies and units in prison.

 (7) Data refer to outpatient treatment centres, inpatient treatment centres and low-threshold agencies (aggregated data).

 (8) Data refers to 2008 and to 33 health care units.

 (9) - Category "Never went to school/Never completed primary school" refers only to Never completed primary school.
