Notes:

The table includes fixed and mobile needle and syringe programme points in prisons and in the community, including through outreach work and peer-distribution, but not vending machines.

2005 data for Austria do not include all NSPs in Austria.

Under-reporting highly likely for number of syringes in 2004 for England (UK). National estimate for England based on comprehensive monitoring results from Cheshire and Merseyside suggests more than 21.7 million syringes given out by D(A)ATs and pharmacies.

Data for the United Kingdom refer to the fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) and are reported under the earlier calendar year.

Data for the Netherlands on NSP points for 2003 are based on register of syringe exchange points at www.mainline.org.

Where data were not available, the table entry is left empty.
