Figure DRD-11. Indexed time series of patterns of drug-induced deaths in different countries (according to general temporal patterns of evolution) and in the EU as a whole [see all figures in this series...]

Part (i) Index in some Member States, 1985 to 2008

Notes:

For each country, the average of valid observations over the observation time (total number of deaths divided by the number of years with data) has been calculated. This average constituted the ‘100 % base’. For each year, the number is presented as a percentage of this average number.

Eight countries provided information for 2008 and eight did not. The trends for those countries that provided information can be seen in the figures with trends by country. Belgium provided data for the years 1987 to 1997 and Ireland for the years 1998 to 2005, therefore they are not included in the series.

Number of cases per country per year are presented in Table DRD-2.

In some countries, the ‘national definitions’ include a limited number of cases of deaths indirectly related to drug use. See Methodological notes in the Statistical bulletin.

In Spain, for this graphic, the information is provided on the special registry (SEIT), based on six big cities with long-term series.

For Luxembourg, a three-year moving average was used due to the low number of cases.
